Halloween Workouts

Halloween is just around the corner, and most of us love to spook things up for this most frightful of holidays. October 31st is generally looked upon as a fun, carefree holiday, especially for the kiddies. But let’s face it, we adults enjoy it too, and if you have children, chances are you’re raiding their trick-or-treat bags the moment they fall asleep on Halloween night! If that’s the case, you just may need a few extra minutes in the gym anyway.

Halloween is also a great time to start a new fitness routine. Most people think New Years is the prime time for eating right and getting fit with a new resolution, but think about it. Halloween comes just weeks after Thanksgiving (that’s right Americans, our Thanksgiving is the second Monday of October, not the last Thursday in November) when we pack on the pounds with turkey, relative trimmings and watch football until we fall asleep on the sofa. We might as well inject that turkey gravy right into our fat cells!

It doesn’t end there, though. Christmas dinner is coming, as is New Years, so there’s no better time get motivated than right now. Whether you’re looking to shed a few pounds to fit into that tight new Halloween costume, or just want to add some creepy crawly rhythm to your Mike Chang workout regime, I’ve come up with a few great ideas for having a fun fitness schedule this October 31st. So grab your mp3 player and a pumpkin and prepare to get ripped with Mike Chang!

That’s right, pumpkins make excellent weights. You can lift them above your head, do squats, crunches and lunges with them, or simply go for a run on the treadmill while carrying one. And you can get some small pumpkins for the kiddies so they can work out with you. There’s even a cute little pumpkin workout song that really gets kids into the exercising mood called Pump up the Pumpkin.

Maybe you don’t have kids, or prefer to work out on your own. No problem. Here’s a list of other fun spookily themed music you can pump pumpkins (or iron) to. Whatever it takes to get you in the Halloween fitness spirit.
